It’s week 1 of our sew/quilt along, and I have designed a small wall hanging that I’ve been wanting to make for some time. Have you seen those fun art pieces using broken jewelry? I have a lot of that, and designed this piece to use them. Don’t worry, if you don’t have any broken jewelry, I’ll give you more ideas when we get to that. The size is fairly small about 16 x 18. It has a front pocket that can be used in multiple ways. I’ll show you how to use ...
read moreMaybe it is the heat outside, but thinking about winter is a pleasant prospect for me right now. There are so many things we could play with for Christmas projects, some in fabric, some in paper, and some with a glue gun. A lot of bloggers are doing Christmas In July posts now, so let’s join the fun. I have a new project for you, a wall hanging that will hopefully surprise and delight you, while being a Stashbuster in more ways than one. That sew/quilt-along will begin on Tuesday. I haven’t yet finished the project myself ...

Spring has officially arrived in my part of paradise, and along with it came Daylight Saving, so we had to put the clocks forward one hour last week. I’m always so impressed that the computers and cell phones know how to do this themselves, so it’s only a couple of household clocks and those in the cars which need to be altered, plus watches too of course.
The last reasonably pleasant days of Winter have given way to the tumultuous Spring weather. It’s always so much more windy in Spring, it’s been rather wet off and ...
read moreThe colour for those of us taking part in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) has changed this month to aqua. In my mind, aqua also encompasses the shades of turquoise and teal. Once again, not shades I have a huge amount of, but I found enough strips and small pieces to cut and stitch blocks for my two Little Bricks projects.

We took a trip up to Palmerston North on Thursday to get the many staples removed from Robin’s knee, in fact we counted 28 of them! The nurse had some sort of handy little implement which ...

I hope you’ll consider following my blog, too (see the right sidebar for ways to follow). This past week was time to do your embroideries and trim them to 6-1/2-inches square, and also to cut the squares needed for finishing the project.
Sew 18 scrappy squares into 6 sets of three squares in a row. Press to one side.
Sew a square set to the right ...
read moreAutumn has well and truly arrived. Cool mornings and evenings, the sun is rising later and setting earlier, but we are still enjoying nice crisp sunny days. It’s time to ring the changes and hang my Autumn quilt up. I love the rich golden colours in this quilt. The centre baskets came in a kit sent to me from my pen friend in South Dakota. I wanted to make it bigger so put the baskets on point and added borders to make it a wall hanging size. This was the first time I tried circular spiral machine quilting.

read moreAre you ever a little disappointed when you hang a little quilt on the wall or is it just me? Sometimes they hang a little wonky, the binding isn’t quite straight, the edges ripple, or they are not flat against the wall. I ended that frustration by figuring out another way to hang wall quilts. I simply mount the wall hanging onto canvas, then hang the canvas. It takes a little time but the finish is worth the effort.
I start with a cheap canvas that is the approximate size of the wall hanging. These are frequently on sale ...
